SurveyLISP is a set of commands and libraries written in AutoLISP and released under an open source license. Redefined Horizons is currently preparing a new version of SurveyLISP for AutoCAD and IntelliCAD software products that will feature limited SVG export capability. The new release of SurveyLISP will be made through the SurveyOS Project, and will be announced on this blog. The design of the SVG export functionality will be featured in a series of upcoming articles for CAD Programmer Magazine.

I will be giving two (2) separate talks at the upcoming 50th CSUF Geomatics Conference. The first talk will be entitled “Surveyor’s Reports: When, How, and Why?”. The second talk will be entitled “Access to Land Surveying Education – What does the future hold?”. Both talks will be made available from the Redefined Horizons web site as podcasts and written articles. This data will be downloadable from our Talks web page. We’ll announce on our blog when they are available.

San Joaquin County Filed Survey Map Index Update

I've updated the San Joaquin Filed Survey Map Index maintained by Redefined Horizons. This latest update includes about 20 filed survey maps and 8 corner records.

The index includes Record of Survey maps, Parcel Maps, and Subdivision Maps for San Joaquin County and its major cities: Stockton, Tracy, Lodi, Ripon, Lathrop and Manteca.

San Joaquin County Filed Survey Map Index Update

The San Joaquin County Filed Survey Map Index maintained by Redefined Horizons has been updated. 11 filed survey maps, including on Subdivision Map (or tract map) and 10 Chas Widdows Maps have been added to the index.

This update includes improved road segment geometry from the California Central Valley Geospatial Data Wharehouse Project maintained by Redefined Horizons.

As a reminder: The San Joaquin County Filed Survey Map Index allows land surveyors to locate Record of Survey maps, Parcel Maps, and Subdivision Maps filed within San Joaquin County and its cities, like Stockton, Lodi, Manteca, Modesto, and Tracy.

I've posted download links for the 300+ maps included in the San Joaquin Filed Survey Map Index available on the Redefined Horizons web site. You can download the zip files with the maps from the San Joaquin County Filed Survey Map Index web page.

These are the same maps that can be downloaded from the San Joaquin County Survey Records web site.

38 filed survey maps have been added to the index. The Shapefile now includes 359 filed survey maps. This should include all of the record of surveys, parcel maps, and subdivision maps filed in San Joaquin County up to today's date. I have also added text labels to all of the maps in the CAD files, including the Chas Widdows maps. I hope to work over the next month or so on data quality issues, mostly cleaning up the labels in the CAD drawings.

You can download the latest Shapefile, 2010 AutoCAD Drawing File, or 2000 DXF file with the data from the filed survey map index from the San Joaquin County Filed Survey Map Index web page at the Redefined Horizons web site.

San Joaquin County Filed Survey Map Index Update

You can now download an up-to-date index at the San Joaquin County Filed Survey Map Index web page hosted at the Redefined Horizons web site. This update to the index includes just under 20 of the most recently filed record of survey maps in San Joaquin County, and should catch the record of survey map portion of the index up to today's date. There are now over 321 maps in the index.

As always, you can download the index as an ESRI Shapefile for use in GIS veiwers, as a 2010 DWG file, or as a 2000 DXF file.

I hope to catch the index up for parcel maps and subdivision maps over the next couple of weeks.

Subdivision Map Name Index Photos for San Joaquin County Now Online

In San Joaquin County you can look up the book number and page number of a filed subdivision map if you have the subdivision map name in an index located at the San Joaquin County Surveyor's Office. I've started taking photos of this book.

San Joaquin County Filed Survey Map Index Update

I've uploaded new versions of the San Joaquin County Filed Survey Map Index to the Redefined Horizons web site. There are now text labels listing the map type, book, and page for most of the maps included in the Version 2008 Drawing file and the Version 2000 DXF file. (An updated ESRI Shapefile and Version 2010 Drawing file are also available.)

I've had my nephew indexing the Chas Widdows maps from Central Stockton now that the most recent filed survey maps are in the digital index. There are about a dozen of these older Widdows maps in the index. He will continue this work indexing the Widdows maps over the next three or four weeks.

I hope you will find this index useful. You can download the index from the San Joaquin Filed Survey Map Index web page at the Redefined Horizons web site.

Updated San Joaquin Filed Survey Map Shapefile

I've posted another update to the San Joaquin County Filed Survey Map Index hosted on www.redefinedhorizons.com. The updated index files now contain 158 filed survey maps. This nearly completes all of the filed survey maps in San Joaquin County not in the hard copy Dickey Book Index. There are perhaps a half a dozen maps that I need to examine, and a half a dozen cemetary and control survey maps that will not be included in the index files but will be kept in a separate list.

You can download the new index in ESRI Shapefile, 2010 DWG, or 2000 DXF format from the San Joaquin Filed Survey Map Index web page at the Redefined Horizons web site.

City of Lodi MapGuide Web Page

San Joaquin County Filed Survey Map Index Update

A 2010 DWG and a 2000 DXF file of the filed survey maps in San Joaquin County is now available from the San Joaquin County Filed Survey Maps Index web page at Redefined Horizons. (These are only a portion of the recent filed survey maps that aren't in the old hard copy index.)

These CAD files should be easier to work with than ESRI shapefiles for some surveyors.

National Forest and Wilderness Area Maps (Black and White)

I've posted black and white scans of a couple National Forest and Wilderness Area maps on the Redefined Horizons web site. This includes maps for the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness Area, the Desoltation Wilderness Area, and the Stanislaus National Forest. I'll post some other maps from my collection soon. The scans are black and white, not color, and they are in PDF format.

Budd and Widdows Ownership Book Online

I have posted a scanned copy of the Budd and Widdows Ownership Book that is available in the Vault at the San Joaquin County Surveyors Office. The book shows ownership of and the configuration of historical parcels in San Joaquin County. My nephew Julian worked over the holiday yesterday to add more filed survey maps to the Shapefile we have been working on. This Shapefile contains the outline of filed survey maps that are not included in the hard copy Dickey Book.

Shapefile of San Joaquin County Filed Survey Maps Now Online

My nephew Julian Padilla was able to volunteer with me to take care of some community service hour requirements from his local high school. I've got him at work indexing the filed survey maps from San Joaquin County that are no longer included in the Dickey Book (hard copy map index).

I've put up the first shapefile resulting from his efforts. Things went a little slow this weekend (our first weekend working together on the project) because I was teaching him how to read the maps and create the Shapefiles in BizzJUMP. But I think the Shapefile has about 10 maps in it. Hopefully we will get some more done next weekend.

Historic HT Compton Map of Stockton Now Online

I've added the FIRM Index Map for San Joaquin County to the California Central Valley Flood Control Information web page at the Redefined Horizons web site. (The map was sent to the local surveying community by the San Joaquin County Flood Control Department.)

I have also added links to two (2) maps related to flooding prepared by the San Joaquin County GIS Department. The first map shows areas in San Joaquin County subject to flooding. The second shows reclamation districts within the County.

Stockton Chiseled Cross Data Now Online at Redefined Horizons

I was able to locate, photograph, and catalog 12 chisled crosses in 45
minutes on Thursday, just around the corner from my office.

I created an ESRI shapefile with the approximate location of the
crosses which you can now download from the Land Surveying Monument
Community Monitoring web page hosted at Redefined Horizons.

The Shapefile also contains the following attribute data for each
chiseled cross:
Name
Date Cataloged
Mapper
Type (Block Corner Cross or Lot Line Cross)
Primary Street Name
Cross Street Name
Comments

I'll be adding new crosses to this Shapefile as I catalog them over
the coming months.

I also hope to get a datasheet up for each cross with a link to
photos.
